Please read this before buying a Tabyana Beach shore ...

My group of 6, four friends and my fiancee, were on the Carnival Legend and our last stop was in Roatan, Honduras in June of . After having a busy week, we decided on a beach day as our last excursion. I had heard that we could also snorkel here so this was another reason why we chose this excursion. I looked up some information on other sites and could not find any way to go to this resort besides booking it through Carnival. That being said, it was only $31.

We arrived in Roatan early in the morning and we met a group on the pier. We got on a bus and took a ride through Roatan and arrived at the Tabyana Resort about 20 minutes later. We saw this tiny, under developed island first-hand and that in itself was exciting. When we arrived, I noticed that the island is building a much bigger shopping area. The island looks poor but with all islands that want more money to come their way, they are rebuilding their island for tourism.

When we arrived at the resort, we were given a 5 minute explanation of what is at the resort and where to rent equipment for snorkeling. Additionally, we were given plastic lounge chairs to use at no charge with bar service on the beach. The drinks were reasonably priced, a pina colada was $6.

The ladies stayed on the beach while we three men went snorkeling. I had brought my mask and snorkel, but rented fins for $5. Every piece was $5. Not a bad deal!

We got into the water and got out into the reef and to our surprise, there is no one there telling us where to go. It was great! We could go wherever we wanted so long as you DO NOT stand on the coral. If you don't do that, you are fine. I took my underwater camera and got some amazing shots of the fish and coral. I saw a stingray and octopus as well. We went out a few hundred feet, to the last buoy. The reef is huge and had so many areas to explore and so many fish to see. We did not see any large fish (over 1 foot) but for most people that would make them happy. We spent about 90 minutes swimming and diving. I would estimate that the water is 30 feet deep at the deepest point.

When we got out of the water, we were exhausted. My only complaint was that we could not stay longer! (As a side note, if you are not a beach bum or do not like to snorkel, then this may not be for you. My fiancee is not either and it was not her favorite place we visited on our cruise.)

We got back on the bus and back to our ship in plenty of time.

I would highly recommend this for snorkeling or for a day at the beach. It was the best snorkeling I have ever experienced!
