How should a Hat fit?

How should a Hat fit?

To fit yourself with a hat get a fabric measuring tape. Wrap it around your head just above your ears and around the widest part of your head. That is your actual hat size. Remember to measure more than once.
If you are between sized go for the larger size. You can use weather stripping to size your hat down. Exactly like that link shows you above. You don&#;t need to buy special tape, the weather stripping you buy from the Hard Ware store is exactly the same thing.
When you put your hat on it should not be uncomfortable tight. If you are reefing it down on your head it is too tight. You should be able to place it on your head comfortably. Now you will find the sweatband it touching in some spots and there is space in others. That&#;s where you add the weather stripping under the sweatband until it first all the way around.
You may find, if the sweatband is leather, it will start shrinking down to your actual head shape and size. You may want to start removing the weather stripping at this point in time. But that&#;s well into the breaking in process.

If you can actually go to a store you can avoid the first section measuring and just try them on and find one that fits you good.

Hope that helps.

First off Tilley hats don&#;t fit like any other hat. If you follow the fitting instructions you are supposed to have two fingers of extra room between your hat and your forehead. All other hats are not supposed to have any real extra room.To fit yourself with a hat get a fabric measuring tape. Hat and Cap Fit Guide - Totemsleather

LEATHER HATS & CAPS

Our leather Hats and Caps are available in a variety of sizes to ensure a comfortable and perfect fit. To determine your correct Hat or Cap size, please follow the steps below using metric measurements:

  1. Measure the circumference of your head.

  2. Use a flexible measuring tape, or piece of string which you must mark and measure afterwards.

  3. Wrap it around your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Make sure the tape is level and not too tight or loose.

  4. Record the measurement. Once you have measured the circumference, note down the exact measurement in centimeters (cm).

  5. Refer to the size chart: Use the following size chart to find your corresponding Hat or Cap size based on your head circumference:

    • Head Circumference: 54 / 55 cm - Hat Size: Small

    • Head Circumference: 56 / 57cm - Hat Size: Medium

    • Head Circumference: 58 / 59cm - Hat Size: Large

    • Head Circumference: 60 / 61cm - Hat Size: X-Large

    • Head Circumference: 62 / 63cm - Hat Size: XX-Large

  6. Choose the appropriate hat size: Based on your head circumference measurement, select the hat size that corresponds to your measurement. If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for a more comfortable fit.

Please note that the sizing guide is a general reference, and individual head shapes may vary. If you have any further questions or need assistance in determining your hat size, please don't hesitate to reach out to Dave at :
