Bloodstone, also called heliotrope, is an aggregate mineral: a combination of green and black-colored jasper and red-colored hematite. The donor of our egg-shaped bloodstone said that the stone might date back to 19th century England, but the history of this item is largely a mystery. What we do know, however, is that cultures all over the world have used bloodstone as a magical tool for over a thousand years.

Our guest for this episode is Becky Beyer. Becky is a researcher and teacher of Appalachian folk magic, traditional witchcraft, primitive skills, homesteading, foraging and Appalachian ethnobotany and folkways. Learn more about Becky at her website: Blood and Spicebush. Read her blog here.

ABOUT US – BloodstoneDivision

History of the Bloodstone

In the ancient world, Bloodstone (Heliotrope) was considered to be the most beautiful of the Jaspers, a deep, earthy green gem emboldened with spots of bright red. Called the Sun Stone, and later Christ&#;s Stone, its energy carries the purity of blood and inherently speaks of life and birth, vitality and strength, passion and courage.

The most widely known legend of this stone comes from the Middle Ages and claims the &#;Blood Stone&#; was formed at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, when the blood of his wounds fell onto the dark green earth and turned to stone.

Its coagulant effect was renowned, and for this reason, ancient warriors often carried Bloodstones as an amulet of protection and courage, as well as its practical applications. Ground, powdered, and mixed with honey, it was used to cure tumors, draw out snake venom and staunch hemorrhages.

Bloodstone, at its core, is staffed with a dedicated veteran team inspired to make it better for the next generation of war fighter medics and EMS providers. To this end, we currently hold distribution for over 165 medical and rescue companies worldwide, enabling us to create customized solutions.

From my basement in Tennessee, I utilized my time and experience as an SF Medic to design the modules that make up the current USSOCOM TCCC CASEVAC Program.  With this experience, I then worked with Pat Thompson (former SF Medic - UK) in a life boat service center in Bergen, Norway, to design the twenty-nine modules that make up the Norwegian Pre-Hospital program.

We vowed to make a difference to those in the field who provide point of injury care through to tactical evacuation (TACEVAC). Our designs are, and will always be, modular. This design philosophy enables end users to customize and optimize their equipment to meet their individual missions.

A few years ago I attended a briefing and my biggest take away was the advice given... "Move at the speed of war"

This is our intent.
