Why PLA (CPLA) is 100% compostable and biodegradable ...

Customer: We are looking for biodegradable fork(cheese pick) and spoon.

100% biodegradable material but not accept the Corn Starch, Bamboo, sugarcane..........,

Quanhua Biomaterial:Then we suggest CPLA cutlery as it’s 100% biodegradable and compostable.

Customer: 100% ? No other ingredients were added to the synthesis during production?

Quanhua Biomaterial: PLA material itself contains a small amount of talc powder. . When we say the cutlery is 100% biodegradable and compostable, it refers to the organic components. While Talc is an inorganic component, which does not affect the degradation or compost.

Then why talc powder should be used for CPLA cutlery production?

There are 2 purposes. Firstly, it is to improve the crystallization efficiency. And secondly, it is to improve the strength of the product.

You can check our raw material PLA’s MSDS. (PDF file shared).

Chemical Name: Polylactide polymers

Synonyms : PLA

Case No. : 9051-89-2

Percent(wt/wt): 70-80

Chemical Name: Hydrous magnesium silicate

Synonyms : Talc powder

Case No. : 14807-96-6

Percent(wt/wt): 20-28

Customer: Then what about CPLA? Any differences with PLA you mentioned above?

Quanhua Biomaterial:CPLA is the PLA after crystallization. There’s an additional high-temperature baking process for CPLA knifes, forks, and spoons.

Crystallization is a physical reaction, only the molecular arrangement changes, the molecular structure does not change at all. The temperature resistance of CPLA (PLA after crystallization) is almost twice-increased.

Customer: Then what are the advantages and disadvantages of PLA and CPLA?

Quanhua Biomaterial:The main difference bewteen PLA and CPLA is the temperature resistance.

PLA cutlery’s heat resistance is only up to 45 degree around, it’s suitable for cold dishes; while CPLA cutlery’s heat resistance is up to 80 degrees, it’s okay for both hot and cold food.

Customer: Thank you for your information, dear Yewtree. Please send us test report and certificate for reference.

Quanhua Biomaterial:My pleasure. Sure, certificates are available, such as BPI (D6400), BRC,DIN CERTCO,OK Compost ,HACCP, ISO22000, etc.
